Reduce Proximity to Toxins: Go Green!
Aug 27, 2024Your environment plays a significant role in how you age. Reducing exposure to toxins is crucial for maintaining your health and vitality. From the cleaning supplies you use to the skincare products you apply daily, opting for green, toxin-free alternatives can make a world of difference. Not only will your skin thank you, but you’ll also feel better knowing you’re contributing to a healthier planet.
It’s essential to be mindful of the environment you’re living in, especially as you age. The products you use daily can have long-term effects on your body. For instance, studies have shown that certain chemicals found in common household products and cosmetics are linked to serious health issues like allergies, hormonal disruptions, and even cancer. This is why making the switch to green products is not just a trend—it’s a necessity.
I personally buy many of my products from a wellness store where everything, from mouthwash—made from peppermint, cinnamon bark, clove, rosemary, and myrrh—to cleaning products, is free of allergens and toxic ingredients. This is particularly important when it comes to products that come into contact with your skin. After all, your skin is your largest organ, and what you put on it matters.
The Hidden Dangers of Toxins
Environmental toxins are everywhere— in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the products we use daily. While it’s impossible to avoid them entirely, minimizing your exposure can significantly impact your health. Toxins like parabens, phthalates, and formaldehyde, commonly found in skincare products, have been associated with various health issues, ranging from skin irritation to more severe conditions like endocrine disruption and cancer.
These toxins aren’t just harmful in the short term. Over time, they accumulate in the body, leading to chronic health issues. For example, parabens, often used as preservatives in cosmetics, have been found in breast cancer tissues, raising concerns about their long-term safety. Phthalates, used to make plastics more flexible, are linked to reproductive issues, and formaldehyde, a known carcinogen, is sometimes used in nail polish and hair treatments.
By choosing green, toxin-free products, you reduce your risk of these serious health issues and contribute to your overall well-being. It’s a simple yet powerful way to take control of your health.
How to Get Started
-
Evaluate Your Current Products: Start by taking a good look at the products you currently use. Read the labels and research any ingredients you don’t recognize. You might be surprised at what you find.
-
Make the Switch Gradually: You don’t have to overhaul everything overnight. Start with the products that come into direct contact with your skin, like lotions, soaps, and makeup. Replace them with green alternatives as you run out. Over time, you’ll have a completely toxin-free routine.
-
Support Wellness Brands: Look for brands that prioritize clean, green ingredients. These products are often better for you and the environment. However, they're not always easy to find. So, here is a link to my wellness store to make it easier to get started.

Create a Healthier Environment: It’s not just about the products you use on your body. Consider the cleaning supplies and other household products you use daily. Opt for green cleaning products that are free from harsh chemicals. Your lungs and overall health will benefit.
