6th Ward Central - Ald William Hall
Feb 20, 2025
Dear neighbors,
As Alderman of the 6th Ward, I am honored to serve as an inaugural co-chair for DuSable Museum Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the legacy of Jean Baptiste Point DuSable—the Haitian-born trader and entrepreneur who founded Chicago. His story is more than history; it represents resilience, Black entrepreneurship, and the foundation of Black economic power in our city.
This event also recognizes the visionaries who have preserved and elevated Black history in Chicago, including Dr. Margaret Burroughs, the founder of the DuSable Museum of African American History. Her dedication to Black art, education, and storytelling led to the creation of an institution that continues to inspire generations. The 6th Ward holds a special connection to this legacy, as Dr. Burroughs’ artwork is housed at the woodshop on 75th Street, reinforcing the importance of keeping our history rooted in our own communities.
I am proud to co-chair this event alongside Mayor Brandon Johnson, Perri Irmer
(President & CEO, The DuSable Museum), Karen Freeman-Wilson (President, Chicago Urban League), and Chairwoman Jeanette Taylor (20th Ward Alderwoman). Together with countless Chicago leaders, we are committed to institutionalizing DuSable Museum Day as a lasting tribute to Black history and economic empowerment in Chicago.
I invite all residents to join us on Saturday, February 22, at 10:00 AM at 740 E. 56th Place for the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Let’s come together to celebrate, reflect, and ensure that Black history, culture, and economic power remain a cornerstone of our city’s future.
